ABOUT GREG

Greg McIntyre was born and raised in Glen Park, New York. He graduated high school in 1996 and joined the Air Force a couple of months later. The Air Force took him to Montgomery, Alabama for his first assignment and eventually to Germany, where he separated from active duty after 10 years of service.

In 2005, Greg decided to start getting serious about his photography and bought his first digital SLR camera. In his first weekend with the camera he took a photograph that resulted in his first award as a Finalist in Photographer’s Forum Magazine 2005 Best of Annual Photography competition and was published at the end of the year. Greg would go on to win this award every year since and one other time in the magazine’s college competition in 2006.

Greg got involved in photography when he lived in Germany. He was able to travel to 9 different countries across Europe and developed a love for photography. He started out with a small digital camera, taking travel photographs of places he visited. Through books, magazines, and online research he started to develop his photography skills and progress to more advanced digital equipment.

Greg’s military service allowed him to develop his talent and provide the needed experience that would later come in handy for future events in portraits and ministry work. He became the unit’s official photographer for change of command, quarterly and annual awards, special events, sporting events and other events as well. These experiences allowed him to work on portrait photography, Department of Defense events for morale and welfare as well as provide the necessary information for the building of the new base gym. One of the results of his achievements is that Greg’s military base was the only one out of 14 bases in Europe to have photographs used by the Orlando Magic Dancers to show on their website, allowing fans to see how they were able to support the military overseas through morale and welfare events.

Greg realized that he was a very talented photographer and decided that he needed a more formal education in photography to further his talent. He enrolled at New York Institute of Photography (www.nyip.com) and took the Complete Course in Professional Photography. It took Greg about 1 1/2 years to complete the course and receive his Certification in Professional Photography. This schooling provided the necessary background that allowed Greg to work in a portrait studio for one month in Germany.

The photographs were also used as a teaching tool to show people the character of God through the world he created. It also has allowed Greg to start writing stories about how God works through His creation. Greg would like to publish a book with these photographs and stories included some time in the future.

The Reflections portfolio on this website is meant to contain various photographs that Greg would like to include in this book.

During his time in Europe and mainly the last couple of years, Greg mainly focused his photography on military chapel events. He used his talents to photograph single ministry events, bible studies, and retreats in Austria and Switzerland. The photographs were used to raise awareness of the ministry in the area that was led by Navigator missionaries (www.navigators.org) that were dedicated to providing spiritual guidance and discipleship to single men and women in our military overseas.

Greg has garnered many awards, publications, and recognitions in his short time in photography. He feels very blessed to have the opportunity he has to do what he loves. Many people have been blessed and enjoyed the work that he has provided and shared with them. Greg’s career has not been very profitable for him financially. Most of his work is done for free or based on client’s financial status. Most of the money was used to cover expenses he entailed. Greg has recently relocated to his hometown and is looking to get a small business started in freelance work, selling landscape photos, and trying to do some photography work for non-profit organizations in the local community as well as doing photographic work for his local church.
